Faithless was first shown in the competition at Cannes Film Festival in year 2000. Though it had a rather cool reception, Lena Endre was praised for her role as Marianne Vogler. Still, the prize for best actress went to Björk in Dancer in the Dark, Lars von Trier's film who also had the Palme d'Or.

Premiering in Sweden in September, Faithless was much more commended. The critics applauded Liv Ullmann's good care of her actors, not the least Lena Endre, who was once again celebrated.
