About the production
In many ways, Scenes from a Marriage is a unique piece in Bergman's oeuvre, as it is the only one of his films to have been adapted for the stage. Bergman himself staged it in Munich in 1981 as Szenen einer Ehe, and the theatrical adaptation has gone on to be staged by various directors the world over. More likely than not, it is the unpretentious nature of film that enabled its transition onto stage. From the get-go, Bergman considered Scenes from a Marriage as nothing more than a series of conversations, 'not worth much at all'.
Scenes from a Marriage is Ingmar Bergman's most-performed work, having played on stages across the globe.
