Though still an amateur, Bergman doesn’t seem too impressed by the established Swedish theatre of the day:

First of all, Swedish theatre today seems to be regressing to an earlier stage I thought we had outgrown: celebrity shows. Big names in big roles. The performance in its entirety hardly seems important – it’s only the big star in the spotlight that matters.
